Points saillants

Moderate winds and four inches of light density snow have created isolated pockets of soft slabs to eight inches in depth on lee, upper elevation slopes. The new snow rests on slick sun crusts and, once triggered, slopes will rapidly slough off. At mid and low elevations the surface consists of strong, stable crusts that have evolved through several melt-freeze cycles.

Avalanche Discussion

An upper level low will move toward Wyoming Tuesday night bringing light to moderate snowfall and lows in the mid teens. Snow will increase in intensity and coverage Wednesday. Areas of heavy snow are expected Wednesday afternoon with mountain total accumulations of several inches. Winds will be westerly during the day at 15 to 20 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard will begin at Low Wednesday morning then rapidly increase with heavy snow at upper elevations. The new snow will be falling on smooth crusts and easily triggered sloughs or soft slabs of dangerous size will become an increasing danger through the day.
