  • Wind slab

    • Above 2,200 m

Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs require caution, especially at elevated altitudes.

The fresh wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2200 m. Caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines. The avalanches are only small. As a consequence of solar radiation loose snow avalanches are to be expected.

Snowpack Structure

The wind slabs are lying on soft layers in particular on very steep shady slopes at elevated altitudes. On Tuesday the wind will be strong in some cases. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to slight moistening of the snowpack at low and intermediate altitudes.

Tendency

Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.
