Points saillants

Look for isolated shallow pockets of wind drifted snow near and above treeline. Any avalanche activity on Saturday will result in a small avalanche. Be aware of terrain where a small avalanche can cause a loss of footing and lead to a long tumble down a slope.

With 1-2" of new snow throughout the region, wind slabs are not much of a problem, but something to keep in mind in steep and extreme terrain.

Avalanche Discussion

Be cautious of overhanging cornices when approaching ridge tops. I have seen a few cornices lurking about at ridge tops over the last few days. While I am not putting these down as an avalanche problem, be careful to not step out onto a cornice that could give way if you step out onto them.
