Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Moderately bonded windslab will be present in wind sheltered locations on North-West through North to East aspects above 900 metres. Gully tops and steep slopes under corrie rims will be worst affected. Exposed locations will be scoured and icy in places. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: No precipitation forecast. Moderate to fresh South, then South-South-Westerly winds. Poorly defined freezing level, cooler overnight then 900 rising to 1200 metres, maybe higher later. Observed Weather Influences: Dry and sunny with gale force South-Westerly, locally Westerly winds. Freezing level rising to around 1100 metres, then lowering late afternoon to 900 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Gale force winds were redistributing available deposits, forming localised unstable windslab in steeper wind sheltered locations on North-West through North to East aspects above 900 metres. Worst affected locations are gully tops and steep slopes around corrie rims. Exposed locations are being stripped bare, exposing old, firm snow. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
