Avalanche Activity

Especially along the border with France some new snow.

As a consequence of new snow and a light to moderate wind from southwesterly directions, small wind slabs will form in the course of the day adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as at high altitude. They can be released, in particular on very steep slopes. The older wind slabs can be released in isolated cases, but mostly only by large additional loads,. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. They are sometimes covered with new snow and are therefore difficult to recognise, caution is to be exercised on very steep slopes at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack.

Snowpack Structure

In some localities 5 to 10 cm of snow, but less in some localities, fell in the last few days. In particular along the border with France 5 to 10 cm of snow will fall. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on shady slopes. In all aspects snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2000 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas and at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions a little snow is lying.

Tendency

Wind and new snow: The avalanche danger will increase a little during the day.
