Points saillants

Avalanches remain unlikely.  Widespread firm and challenging slide-for-life conditions continue to be the greatest hazard to backcountry travel.

Avalanche Discussion

Much cooler temperatures and stronger winds should keep most melt-freeze slopes locked up and hard today. Southerly aspects at the lowest elevations may see slight surface softening, but overall southerly aspects would best be avoided all together unless your aim is to climb them with an ice ax and crampons.  These sharp tools should be carried for any ventures beyond sheltered northerly facing trees, as that is the only place you are likely to find soft snow.  A fall on even relatively low-angle low-elevation firm slopes could lead to a long dangerous slide.
