Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence.

The storm force wind has transported the fresh and old snow significantly. The fresh and older wind slabs represent the main danger. In particular on steep slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain medium-sized slab avalanches are possible. Avalanches can be released, even by small loads in isolated cases. Between approximately 2400 and 3000 m the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of the wind, the snow drift accumulations have increased in size. Snow depths vary greatly at high altitude, depending on the infuence of the wind. Sunshine and high temperatures gave rise to consolidation of the snowpack at low and intermediate altitudes. At low and intermediate altitudes only a little snow is lying.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
