Avalanche Summary

You can trigger a deadly avalanche from the thin spots on west through north to south-facing slopes. These avalanches can break several feet deep, wide, and run far. Before triggering one of these dangerous avalanches, you may not see any signs of unstable snow, like cracking or collapsing. Slopes less than about 30 degrees with no overhead hazards offer safer travel options. Expect a rise in avalanche conditions as another storm moves into the area throughout the day on Tuesday into Wednesday.

January 7, 2023, two snowmobilers died in a large avalanche near Corona Pass. You can read the preliminary accident report here. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the people involved in this tragic accident.
