Avalanche Summary

You can trigger small avalanches where you find more than about 6 inches of new, drifted snow. Look for and avoid steep, drifted slopes that face northwest through east to south at upper elevation. Lens-shaped pillows of snow below ridges and at the top of steep gullies are likely places to trigger a slide. Cracking in the storm snow and audible collapses are indications to avoid steep slopes. Look for slopes less than about 35 degrees as a safer option, and be cognizant of people above or below you.
