The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust only at high altitudes and will soften during the day. As a consequence of warming during the day mostly small moist and wet avalanches are possible. Mostly small gliding avalanches are possible on very steep grassy slopes. The old wind slabs can only be released in isolated cases. This applies in particular in extremely steep terrain at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example.
