Avalanche Activity

Small and medium sized avalanches especially on very steep shady slopes.

On very steep shady slopes and at high altitude slab avalanches are possible, but they will be mostly small. Avalanches can in isolated cases be released by large loads. In many places there is a danger of falling on the icy crust. On very steep sunny slopes mostly small natural moist avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. The weather conditions gave rise to gradual consolidation of the snowpack in particular on shady slopes in particular at intermediate and high altitudes. In these regions the snowpack will freeze and form a strong crust. In some places various wind slab layers are lying on an icy crust. The older wind slabs can be released by large loads in particular. The meteorological conditions will foster a slight weakening of the snowpack in the late morning in particular on sunny slopes.
