    Wind Slabs will still be possible to trigger. South Westerly wind will redistribute snow any new snow onto the NE 1/2. Look for blowing snow as a key sign hazard is increasing.

Recent Avalanche Activity

Mt Hutt Patrol reported a Size 1 Loose Dry avalanche in steep, unsupported terrain on a SW aspect. This occurred naturally some time during the high winds on Thursday.

Current Snowpack Conditions

The snowpack has taken a hammering with winds up to 150kph on Thursday and Friday morning. Any dry snow has been deposited into very sheltered terrain. Elsewhere the rain crust from July 15th will be exposed. Underneath the rain crust, there is no significant layering of note, with the snowpack below this well consolidated through to ground.

Mountain Weather

Saturday: Up to 15cm of snow is forecast overnight Friday. Strong SW winds persist throughout. Skies clear early than otherwise fine day. FAFL 900m.

Sliding Danger

Terrain expose to gale NW winds still has the rain crust on the surface. Assess the surface before ending up on slope, a set of crampons and an axe may come in handy.
