Continued snow and strong winds will continue to build fresh slabs, and thicken existing slabs from Saturday. You can trigger a large avalanche on leeward slopes 35 degrees and steeper at upper elevations. Blowing snow, cornices, and textured snow surfaces are good indicators wind slabs are nearby. Use these visual clues to identify and avoid steep wind loaded slopes. Watch for obvious signs of unstable snow like cracking, collapsing, and fresh avalanches. Keep loose dry avalanche concerns in mind as well. These slides could knock you off your feet and entrain quite a bit of snow as they run downslope. At lower elevations, we don’t expect enough new snow to accumulate and present a significant hazard.
