The widespread natural avalanche cycle on solar aspects seems to have peaked 2 days ago with a few new avalanches reported regionally yesterday and none reported in this zone. Persistent weak layers have become more difficult to trigger in places that have warmed and refrozen, but you could still trigger a large avalanche in locations warmed significantly by the sun or that had light refreezes overnight. Increased cloud cover today may shade slopes and keep south facing slopes icy and more stable. Higher elevation weather stations and those east of the Continental Divide only cooled to the upper 20's last night, so warming will occur quickly today on east facing slopes. Shady aspects that have stayed cool during past few days still have dry hard slabs that you can trigger on the thick, weak layers of facets and depth hoar in this zone.

This slope at 9,400 feet failed widely in the afternoon of January 30th. After two days of above freezing temps, water flowing through the snowpack reached down to the weak layer of facets, or possibly a crust with facets, and tipped over the first domino in the weak layer.
