Points saillants

Skier triggered Wet Loose avalanches will be possible on steep South slopes.  While avalanches are likely to be small, use caution when skiing in very steep terrain, or above terrain traps like cliffs where a fall could have increased consequence.

    A solid overnight freeze and high temperatures climbing into the low 40's at treeline, point more to good riding quality than a significant spike in avalanche hazard.  Still, this is the time of year when folks are out skiing steeper and bigger lines.  A relatively shallow wet sluff can be heavy enough to pull you off your feet if you're not careful.

    As is often the case with this avalanche character, the simplest observation of how deeply the snow is melting (often measured by your boot or ski penetration) is the most useful and relevant.  Time your tour, and use aspect (which direction does a slope face) to plan for good, safe riding.

Avalanche Discussion

Thursday proved to be a bit cooler than ideal for good corn skiing across a variety of aspects.  Friday should be 5-10 degrees warmer, which will be an improvement.  With the softer riding comes a slightly increased risk of Wet Loose avalanches.
