Avalanche Activity

Wet snow represents the main danger.

As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation only isolated small moist avalanches are possible. These can in some places be released by a single winter sport participant. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep sunny slopes at high altitude. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.

Snowpack Structure

The thin layer of recent snow has been deposited on a brown surface due to the effect of the Sahara dust. The surface of the snowpack is not frozen and will soften quickly. On shady slopes above approximately 2000 m there are 10 to 50 cm of snow, and even more in some localities. On steep sunny slopes only a little snow is lying.

Tendency

Saturday: The danger of moist avalanches will decrease gradually.
