Avalanche Summary

A Special Avalanche Advisory is in effect for the Flat Tops Mountains through Sunday. Days of accumulating snow is overloading fragile snow near the ground. You can easily trigger a large and dangerous avalanche that breaks wider and runs further than you might expect. You can trigger these avalanches from below a slope or from a distance.

Do not ignore clear signs of dangerous conditions like recent avalanches, shooting cracks, or audible collapses. Look for low-angle, wind-sheltered slopes for safer travel options.

Weather Summary

You can trigger a large and dangerous avalanche on steep northerly and easterly-facing slopes at all elevations. Dense slabs of recently fallen snow rest precariously above fragile weak layers near the ground. An avalanche can break larger and wider than you anticipate and can be triggered from adjacent low-angle slopes and from below. Do not ignore clear signs of dangerous conditions like recent avalanches, shooting cracks, or audible collapses. Look for low-angle, wind-sheltered slopes for safer travel options.
