Avalanche Summary

Unusually dangerous avalanche conditions exist across many parts of the Elk and West Elk Mountains. You can easily trigger an avalanche on most slopes facing west through north to southeast and they will grow big enough to bury you. You might find safer travel on south and southwest-facing slopes but the easiest way to stay safe is to avoid traveling on or underneath any slopes steeper than about 30 degrees that could produce a big avalanche on all aspects of concern.

Rain at low elevations will likely make it easy to trigger loose avalanches in the wet snow on Wednesday. Approach sustained steep slopes with caution if the snow feels wet.
