Avalanche Summary

Cooler air, a few hours of below-freezing nighttime temperatures, and strong winds on Monday will improve conditions. That said, it’s still warm—so don’t let your guard down. Safe travel on steep backcountry slopes requires thick, supportable melt-freeze crusts beneath you. Strong winds may keep the surface frozen on Monday, but wet, weak snow may still be lurking underneath. Dig down to check. If you find yourself sinking into wet snow past your ankles, or if you find cohesionless wet snow below a dense slab, look for lower angle slopes or call it a day.

Starting and ending your day early is a good strategy to reduce your risk of avalanches.
