Points saillants
Several days of snow and strong Southwest winds have created a variety of conditions in the backcountry. Although some slopes are scoured others are topped with soft and hard slabs up to three feet in depth in avalanche terrain. These slabs could be human triggered on steep wind loaded aspects and in cliff areas particularly at upper elevations but also in pockets at mid elevations. At low elevations isolated pockets of shallow soft slab could be triggered on steep wind loaded terrain. On Friday a two foot deep soft slab was remotely triggered by skiers in a steep avalanche prone area of avalanche bowl where a snowboarder triggered a fatal slide in January.
