Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on slopes facing west through north to east, where you find about a foot or more of new snow resting on either a thin, breakable crust or weak, cohesionless snow. Most of these avalanches will be small, but they can still drag you down a slope, so be aware of dangerous terrain traps, such as a creek or a cliff below you. Safer travel options exist on slopes where the new snow fell on bare ground, so most south-facing slopes, or by simply avoiding steep slopes above terrain traps where you do find more than a foot of new snow.
