Avalanche Summary

Dangerous avalanche conditions exist. The most dangerous slopes face northwest, north, and northeast near and above treeline, but you might be able to trigger a deadly avalanche on most steep slopes facing the north half of the compass. In large avalanche paths facing these directions, you could easily trigger an avalanche on a weak layer under the new snow that steps down to deeper weak layers, growing into an unsurvivable avalanche. You can also trigger smaller but still dangerous avalanches on wind-drifted snow at higher elevations on the lee sides of ridgelines mostly facing the eastern half of the compass. You can reduce your chances of being caught in an avalanche by avoiding travel on or under slopes steeper than around 30 degrees on these aspects of concern.
