Avalanche Activity

Fresh snowdrifts

Low avalanche danger prevails. Nevertheless, attentiveness is demanded in gullies, bowls near ridgelines. On extremely steep slopes, a release cannot be excluded. But only medium-sized (magnitude 2) are anticipated due to the shallow snowpack.

Snowpack Structure

Over the last 48 hours, 20 cm of fresh snow has been registered, amid dropping temperatures. The snow was transported by icy northerly winds. Beneath the fresh snow and drifts, surface hoar lurks which formed on Thursday night. There is little snow in open terrain. Some gullies and bowls have been filled.

Weather Synopsis

Monday: In the Hochschwab region, brisk cold NW winds can accumulate heavy clouds, generate minor snow showers, but sunny intervals are possible. Temperature at 2000 m: -12 degrees. Tuesday: mostly sunny weather, some thin clouds can move in later on. It will remain wintery cold.
