Points saillants

Warm temperatures combined with some sunshine will melt the snow surface on slopes that are in the sun.  It is likely that this melting won't extend beneath the surface more than an inch or two, but Loose Wet avalanches may be possible on the warmest slopes (steep, South faces).

The days are short and the sun is low on the horizon, so the snow is much less affected by the sun than it is later in the year.  Nonetheless, with high temperatures into the mid 40's tomorrow, I could envision shallow Loose Wet avalanches in the steepest and warmest terrain.

Avalanche Discussion

An inch or two of new snow may have cheered me up a bit, and improved this morning's riding quality some, but it did little to change our snowpack structure.  Beneath that skiff of snow is the wide variety of old snow surfaces that Jonas mentioned in his observation from Saturday.  If you're traveling on sunny slopes you'll still be feeling some crust.  Beneath that, our snowpack is relatively strong, with no significant persistent weak layers.
