Snowpack Structure

The rain gave rise to increasing and thorough wetting of the snowpack over a wide area. The surface of the snowpack will freeze very little and will soften quickly. The high temperatures will give rise to a loss of strength within the snowpack. Avalanche prone weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on steep shady slopes.
