Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs at elevated altitudes.

Above approximately 1200 m snow fell yesterday. The sometimes moderate wind will transport the new snow significantly. In the course of the day sometimes large wind slabs will form. The fresh snow of yesterday as well as the wind slabs can be released easily, even by a single winter sport participant,. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. Medium-sized and large dry avalanches are to be expected.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 15 to 25 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since the early morning above approximately 1500 m. The new snow can be released naturally in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 2200 m. In particular at elevated altitudes snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
