Fresh wind slabs require caution.
As a consequence of a strong to storm force westerly wind, sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs will form. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep shady slopes above the tree line. In many places there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.
Snowpack Structure
Some snow will fall in some localities. The small quantity of fresh snow and the mostly small wind slabs that are forming during the snowfall will be deposited on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack on shady slopes. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to slight moistening of the snowpack in some cases, in particular at intermediate altitudes.
