Avalanche Summary

Steep slopes with wind-drifted snow are the most dangerous. Avalanches can break wide and near the ground like this one in the Mosquito Range (click here). Any avalanche you trigger in freshly drifted snow can grow in size as it steps down to more deeply buried layers. Avoid steep slopes with harder, more than 10 inches of drifted snow.
