Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on steep slopes where you find more than about a foot of recent snow sitting over older, weaker snow. Most avalanches will be small. The avalanches could be larger and more dangerous on slopes with lots of wind-drifted snow. You can find safer travel options by sticking to areas where the recent snow fell on bare ground or less than about 12 inches of recent snow fell. Friday's snow storm will increase avalanche danger.
