Avalanche Summary

You could trigger an avalanche anywhere you find more than about ten inches of recent storm snow, or anywhere that early-season snow persisted underneath more recent storm snows. Upper elevation slopes facing north, northeast, and east are where you are more likely to trigger an avalanche large enough to be dangerous to you, but even small avalanches below treeline can wash you through rocks or trees. For safer options, stick to more south-facing terrain or slopes with less than about ten inches of new snow.
