Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on wind-drifted slopes. Strong westerly winds are building slabs on north through east to south-facing slopes at upper elevations. Steer around wind-drifted features. Choose wind-sheltered terrain with soft snow surfaces for safer options.

Triggering an avalanche that breaks near the ground becomes more difficult with each passing day, but if you do, the consequences remain serious. Choose features with a consistently deep snowpack, and avoid places where the snowpack is thin and variable in depth.
