Avalanche Summary

If you travel on a slope with connected supportive snow, there is likely a weak layer beneath where you could trigger an avalanche. Multiple people could travel on a slope before you trigger an avalanche, and you will not get any warning signs before triggering an avalanche. Slopes with wind-drifted pillows will produce the largest avalanche and are where you could trigger an avalanche at the surface, which can step down to the ground. You can find safer travel on lower-angled and lower-elevation slopes.
