Points saillants

The General Avalanche Hazard remains HIGH. Dangerous unstable slabs up to five feet in depth exist. They lie upon good sliding surfaces and well developed weak layers of faceted snow. These unstable slabs are likely to be easily triggered by humans and could release naturally. Yesterday a skier triggered a large avalanche on a northerly aspect at an elevation 9,100 feet in the Salt River Range. Similar events are likely today. An avalanche watch has been issued for the western mountains of Wyoming.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )The mild moist westerly flow will bring more snowfall to the mountains before colder air moves into the region Friday night. The mountains are likely to get another 5 to 10 inches and the valleys 3 to 5 inches by Friday afternoon. This precipitation will be accompanied by strong ridgetop winds (30 to 40 MPH with gusts to 65). The avalanche warning issued Thursday morning is in effect overnight and is likely to be extended depending on conditions Friday morning. The general avalanche hazard is expected to HIGH on Friday. Large natural and human triggered avalanches are likely. Travel in avalanche is not recommended.
