Points saillants

The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE. Backcountry travellers could trigger slab avalanches in very steep wind loaded terrain. Weak, faceted snow layers that exist within the snowpack are likely to be included in such an event providing the potential for slab depths to be in excess of three feet in some areas.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )The upper level flow is expected to back to the southwest and bring snow to the region. Snow is likely in the morning and will increase in intensity during the day. Ridge crest winds will be southwesterly at 25 with gusts to near 40 miles per hour. Mountain temperatures will rise in the upper single digits to mid teens. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Strong southwest winds and new snow will form new soft slabs on leeward aspects and increase the load on existing instabilities. The potential to trigger slab avalanches will increase as the day progresses.
