Points saillants

Surface snow will get warm and wet today, becoming unstable. This is more likely within deposits of recent snow, which is softer than the old snow around it. Use timing margins when planning your day, and if you encounter wet and unsupportable surface snow, move to less exposed terrain or firmer slopes.

Today is forecast to be warm and sunny, resulting in areas of wet and unstable surface snow. Recent snow from earlier this week hasn't adjusted to spring diurnal conditions yet, and is more likely to produce wet loose avalaches than areas with old, firmer snow on the surface. This creates some overlap between today's wet loose avalanches and previous wind slabs. And if you're pushing into big terrain, there may be small pockets of cold wind slabs remaining.

Avalanche Discussion

Don’t let complacency lull you into an avalanche accident today. After several weeks of spring diurnal conditions, it would be easy to stop packing your thinking cap. End your season strong and healthy by remaining vigilant during dynamic spring conditions.
