Points saillants

A shallow early season snowpack exists, and conditions are mostly stable. However, isolated pockets of surface slab with depths to ten inches could be triggered by backcountry travelers in very steep, wind loaded terrain at the highest elevations. Snow depths are generally less than six inches below an elevation of 8,500 feet.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Expect mostly cloudy skies along with a chance for light, scattered snow showers on Wednesday. Overnight lows in the mountains will be in the low teens before rising back into the upper teens during the day. Northwesterly ridgetop winds will back to the west at 15 to 25 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW on Wednesday. In steep, wind loaded terrain at the higher elevations, backcountry travelers might be able to trigger an isolated pocket of surface slab. While these slides are likely to be small, they have the potential to carry skiers and riders into compromising terrain, such as shallowly buried rock outcroppings and scree fields.
