The general avalanche hazard is LOW at all elevations. Mostly stable snow exist, however some instability associated with isolated pockets of new wind blown snow along the highest ridgelines and buried faceted snow persist. Backcountry users could trigger a shallow soft surface slab on steep wind loaded aspects or isolated pockets of older deeper slab on very steep northerly aspects especially in shallow, rocky areas.

Mid and high level clouds will spread south across the area this evening producing mainly flurries or very light snowfall on Friday. The thermal inversion will persist. Daytime highs will rise into the single digits. Winds will be northerly at 5 to 10 MPH. AVALANCHE HAZARD FOR THE TETON AREAThe general avalanche hazard is expected to remain LOW at all elevations on Friday. Isolated pockets of old slab up to two feet deep persist and could be triggered on very steep rocky northerly aspects. AVLANCHE HAZARD FOR THE TOGWOTEE PASS/CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND GREYS RIVER/SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREASThe general avalanche hazard is expected to remain MODERATE. Weaknesses associated with faceted snow persist in the snowpack. Dangerous slabs could be triggered on some very steep wind loaded aspects, however multiple passes by snowmachines or skiers may be made before a weak point is crossed and a slab avalanche is triggered. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
