Avalanche Activity

On wind-loaded slopes a high danger will persist. The large quantity of fresh snow as well as the wind slabs that are forming in all aspects represent the main danger. Backcountry touring calls for extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection.

The large quantity of fresh snow as well as the extensive wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects. The number and size of avalanche prone locations will increase. Numerous natural avalanches are to be expected, even very large ones. Single winter sport participants can release avalanches very easily.

Snowpack Structure

In the course of the day the wind slabs will increase in size substantially. Large quantities of fresh snow and the wind-drifted snow are bonding poorly with the old snowpack in all aspects. Weak layers exist in the snowpack.

Tendency

Over a wide area wind and new snow. As a consequence of new snow and wind, further wind slabs will form. The wind slabs will form in all aspects.
