Avalanche Activity

The danger of moist and wet avalanches will increase quickly during the day.

Fresh wind slabs. The more recent wind slabs are in some cases still prone to triggering and generally at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. These can in isolated cases be released, even by a single winter sport participant and reach medium size. Moist and wet avalanches. From the early morning as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation there will be a rapid increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches. Especially in starting zones where no previous releases have taken place small and medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible. Additionally in some places moist and wet avalanches can penetrate near-ground layers of the snowpack reach medium size in particular on very steep shady slopes. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the field, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality.

Snowpack Structure

Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to a loss of strength within the snowpack over a wide area. 50 to 70 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell on Monday above approximately 2600 m. The spring-like weather conditions gave rise to rapid moistening of the snowpack over a wide area. Especially at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions a lot of snow is lying. Since Saturday on very steep slopes numerous medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large avalanches were reported. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in shady places that are protected from the wind, especially above approximately 2400 m.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will increase during the day.
