Points saillants

Expect to see loose snow avalanches on steep terrain, all aspects, today. Also expect to see formation of potentially sensitive windslabs on east facing terrain as west winds build throughout the day.

Loose snow avalanches were widespread in the Northern Elkhorns yesterday on terrain steeper than 35 degrees and I expect similar conditions in the Blues today. The new snow from the recent snow event is resting on an excellent sliding surface. It will take very little force to trigger a sluff today on steep terrain.

West winds are forecasted to build throughout the day which will create reactive windslabs on east facing terrain. This new snow is parked on a firm bedsurface which makes for an ideal avalanche sliding surface. Be very careful when recreating on steep east facing terrain today and tomorrow.
