Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Wet snow instabilities will be present from late evening onwards. Avalanches are likely in recent snow accumulations mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 700 metres. All cornices will be prone to collapse. Windward aspects will be generally stable. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: During the evening the freezing level will rise above the summits, remaining there for the rest of the period. There will be some light rain mainly overnight and in the morning. Winds will be strong from the South-West. Observed Weather Influences: There were occasional snow showers and strong Westerly winds. The freezing level was around 800 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Areas of moderately bonded windslab are present mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Fragile cornices are present above these aspects. Windward aspects are scoured and icy with good stability. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
