Avalanche Activity

Caution: small snowdrifts

Fresh snow and drifts can be triggered as small-to-medium sized slab avalanches by one single winter sports enthusiast in some places. Danger zones occur behind sharp drops in the terrain and in wind-loaded gullies and bowls.

Snowpack Structure

Widespread 10-30cm of fresh snow is anticipated. Brisk winds with strong gusts will transport this fresh snow far-reachingly. Fresh snow and drifts in general lie deposited only on shady slopes atop an old snowpack, otherwise on bare ground.

Weather Forecast

The marked cold front from Wednesday will turn into a barrier cloud situation with ice-cold temperatures. Visibility is poor, snowfall persists, intensively during the morning hours in some places, huge amounts of fresh fallen snow are expected. In the afternoon, precipitation will taper off but the skies will remain gray. Temperature at 2000m: -10 degrees; at 3000m: from -17 degrees. Initially strong-velocity and gusty westerly winds, then brisk north-to-northwesterly winds at high altitudes.

Tendency

Avalanche danger will gradually diminish
