Avalanche Summary

Most slopes don't harbor enough snow for avalanches. If you were to trigger an avalanche, it would be on a steep slope or couloir and have at least eight inches of new snow above weak old snow near the ground. Northerly slopes are the most dangerous, as they had the best coverage before this past storm. Identify and avoid slopes steeper than around 35 degrees that appear smooth and rounded. Even a small avalanche can be dangerous in early-season conditions.
