Grand Mesa

You can easily trigger a small avalanche where you find over a foot of new snow on a steep slope. This could be in areas that got the most snow across the forecast zone or on wind-drifted, leeward slopes. The most dangerous slopes, where some of these avalanches might grow large enough to bury you, face northeast east and southeast at upper elevations. Safer travel options exist on wind-sheltered slopes below treeline or by avoiding travel on or directly under steep slopes that have more than afoot of new snow.
