Avalanche Summary

Strong westerly winds and plenty of snow for transport will increase your chances of triggering an avalanche. Higher elevation wind-drifted slopes facing north, northeast, and east are the most dangerous. You can trigger an avalanche in the newly drifted snow or deeper on buried weak layers. Smooth rounded surfaces or stiff, hollow slabs below ridges or the sides of steep gullies are likely places to encounter these problems. Lower-angle, wind-sheltered slopes will provide safer riding options.
