Low avalanche danger prevails

Low danger reigns, but alertness required towards older drifts at high altitudes which can be triggered as slabs in isolated cases. Avalanche prone locations are found on high ridgeline transitions.

Snowpack Structure

In the last few days a few centimetres of fresh snow have been registered at high altitudes. On Tuesday a few cm of fresh snow will be added. Due to wind impact, snowpack accumulations can be generated at high altitudes, in intermittent cases these are triggerable. Due to recent weather developments the snowpack is generalyl moist and melt-freeze encrusted.

Weather Synopsis

On Tuesday, extremely inhospitable weather: mostly heavily overcast, the peaks often shrouded in heavy cloud. Repeated bouts of snowfall, most in northern Upper Styria where above 1000-1500m there will be 20-30 cm of fresh snow. Moderate NW winds (20-40 km/hr). At 2000 m: -5 degrees. Wednesday will begin with sunshine, no precipitation. During the daytime, widespread cloudbanks will pass through. It will remain dry and the summits mostly free.

No significant change in avalanche danger is expected.
