Weak snow formed in November is buried beneath 2 to 5 feet of snow at the base of our snowpack. The chance of triggering an avalanchehas dimished to the point of being very unlikely. Very steep, rocky, and previously wind loaded terrain (think east face of Lava or east face of Two Ocean) is where this type of avalanche is most likely to be triggered. Probe and dig to identify this problem or just avoid that type of terrain.
(12/31/2025) The last reported persistent slab avalanche occurred a month ago. It resulted in a partial burial.
