Points saillants

Temperatures are near or above freezing this morning and rain showers are in the forecast for the mid and lower elevations. Wet loose loose and wet slab avalanches are possible today in steep terrain, especially in areas where the snowpack is shallow and isothermal. Monitor conditions and avoid steep terrain where the snowpack is excessively soft.

Wet loose and wet slab avalanches are possible today in steep terrain after snow surfaces soften. These wet slides could be human triggered. In isolated areas these wet slides may have some potential to step down with depths to six feet to deeply buried layers of weak faceted snow near the base of the snowpack.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )An increasing southerly flow will bring clouds with a chance of rain and snow showers after midnight. On Tuesday snow showers are likely at the upper elevations and rain showers are likely at the mid and lower elevations. Air temperatures will remain above freezing overnight and will rise into the 40s and 50s during the day. Southwest winds will increase to 20 miles per ahead of a strong cold front that will move into the region on Tuesday night. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW but could increase to MODERATE in locations that receive heavy rainfall. Monitor conditions and avoid steep terrain if the snowpack is isothermal.
