Snowpack

In September, snow repeatedly fell at higher elevations. In the glaciated high mountains, above around 3400 m, there is a continuous snowpack.

On Monday, large amounts of snow will fall, especially at the highest elevations. Avalanches may release over large areas.

Below around 3400 m, the snow usually falls on bare ground.

OutlookTuesday:

It is mostly very cloudy, with occasional bright spells in the inner Alpine regions. At higher altitudes, a strong southerly wind blows at times. Along the main Alpine ridge, from the Monte Rosa region to Avers and further south, 30 to 60 cm of snow will fall in the high mountains. The avalanche danger increases locally there. In other regions, only little precipitation falls, with the snowfall level lowering to 2200 m in the west and 2800 m in the east. There the avalanche danger does not change significantly.

Wednesday:

It remains mostly very cloudy, with occasional bright intervals in the south. Precipitation occurs in showers. The snowfall level is between 1800 m in the west and 2200 m in the east and south. In the high mountains, the avalanche danger decreases slowly, but at higher elevations small slides are to be expected with the fresh snow.
