Avalanche Summary

A Special Avalanche Advisory for much of Colorado. Heavy snow and strong winds dramatically changed avalanche conditions. You can easily trigger large, deadly avalanches throughout President’s Day weekend.

Dangerous avalanche conditions persist. Slopes over 30 degrees may fail naturally or be easy to trigger as strong winds continue to load snow onto a very weak snowpack. Use extra caution and create wide buffers to avoid steeper slopes, especially in heavily wind-drifted areas. The most problematic features will look smooth and rounded and can be found below ridges or steep rollovers. Seek out lower-angle wind-sheltered slopes as safer options.
